I can honestly say that this is one of the best books I have ever read. I was a bit leery of reading it for a couple of reasons. The first reason was that I didn't think it would be possible to live up to the hype. I was also hesitant to read it because I've been to Dachau (a concentration camp) and it was a life altering experience. I wasn't sure that a book could capture the horror that I felt while I was there. Well, my fears were in vain. Not only did The Book Thief live up to my expectations, it surpassed them. I was so impressed by the way the author handled what was going on with Germans and Jews during WW2.
I don't want to say much because I don't want to spoil the book but I would recommend this book to everyone. It is not a typical escape the world kind of book that I usually read but there are some situations in history that need to be faced head on. The Book Thief does a beautiful job of doing that.
